President, Peak Design Company

Joana Berling is an experienced architect and certified general contractor with more than a decade of expertise in the design and construction of industrial and temperature‑controlled facilities. For the past three years, she has served as President of Peak Design Company, a global design firm specializing in advanced temperature‑controlled buildings for food storage, processing, and distribution.

Under Joana’s leadership, Peak Design Company partners with some of the world’s largest food producers, logistics providers, and cold‑chain operators to help deliver affordable, high‑quality food to communities around the globe. Her work spans the U.S., Europe, and emerging international markets, where she leads teams that solve complex challenges in food safety, resiliency, and supply‑chain efficiency.

Joana is recognized for her ability to build and lead high‑performing, multidisciplinary teams across borders—bringing together architects, engineers, technologists, and construction professionals to deliver innovative, mission‑critical industrial environments. Her collaborative approach ensures that Peak’s global clients receive solutions tailored not only to performance and sustainability goals, but also to regional regulations, cultural contexts, and market conditions.

A proud graduate of the University of Florida with a master’s from the College of Design, Construction and Planning, Joana was born and raised in the Bahamas as one of six children, five of whom now call Florida home. After completing her studies, she settled in Jacksonville, where she and her husband are raising their three children.

In addition to her professional leadership, Joana serves on multiple boards, including the DBIA National level, where she works to advance the practice of design‑build and to elevate the role of architects and engineers within the industry.
